Paintings
Throughout my practice, oil painting has formed the foundation of my creative process, now influencing my current printmaking.
'The Big Move' | Reduction lino cut and relief printing with oils on board| 53x118cm ‘The Big Move’ reflects a pivotal moment in life when home is no longer a fixed place but something we must leave behind. This work speaks to the profound impact of loss and change, with tension between what is familiar and what is changing. The artwork captures the emotional weight of sorting through a life, the quiet grief of letting go, and the uncertainty of stepping into a new environment. Foundations of memory is symbolised at the figure’s feet and the ceramic swallows on the wall, flying toward the lotus symbolises change, cycle of life and renewal. ‘The Big Move’ considers the complexity of these transitions and honours the people who navigate these changes and the stories that travel with them, long after the rooms they once inhabited have been left behind.
'What Remains'|Reduction lino cut and relief printing on board combined with oil painting. 103 x 53 cm ‘What Remains’ reflects on the cycle of life and the fragile tether between our sense of belonging and the objects we gather around ourselves. In this surreal landscape, furnishings rest among a lotus lake and drifting waterbirds, swept from their domestic interiors and left to outlast the people who once inhabited them. The work considers what becomes of our things when we are no longer here, how our belongings carry deep sentimental value in our presence yet remain indifferent to our absence. ‘What Remains’ reflects not only on the objects we collect, but on the stories they hold, and how those stories shift once we are gone, leaving the environment itself to carry what is left behind.
